We believe that community archaeology is archaeological research carried out by, and for, local communities, either with or without the support of professionals. We strongly believe that archaeology can involve everyone irrespective of experience, skills, knowledge, education or social background. We also believe that well designed community projects can reach far beyond local interest and can address important academic questions. We aim to empower and equip community groups with the skills and facilities to make significant contributions to the archaeological record.
We are able to provide help and support to groups considering community archaeology projects. This includes project assessment to judge if your project is viable and assisting with identifying and defining achievable project aims and objectives.
We can provide assistance with applications for funding; a task which many groups find daunting. We have successfully helped organisations complete HLF applications as well as securing funding from other sources.
We can provide survey training, documentary research training, and project management. We have developed a range of surveying solutions suitable for use by community groups.
We will shortly be publishing the Meerstone Community Archaeology Manual that brings together all our methodologies in a unique open content document. Click here for further information.
We have a pool of equipment that we make available for projects that we manage.
We can also provide outreach activities such as illustrated talks and guided walks.
We can offer help designing leaflets, posters, pamphlets, books or web based presentation of your project results. Click here for further information.
