This can consist of rapid survey to identify the range, nature and condition of features visible on a site without excavation. This may typically involve coarsely mapping features with a navigation grade GPS in conjunction with a photographic survey. This type of survey usually follows on from a desktop assessment. Following on from an initial field evaluation it may be necessary to carry out more detailed survey or conduct small scale excavations to establish the presence or absence of archaeological deposits.
